Wondering where to drink wine in Paris with a cheese plate or a charcuterie board ? As a couple, with friends or wine lovers, here are my favorite addresses.
Of course you will find wine at all the restaurants in France. But you can also go to a wine bar. These places are usually very casual where the French meet with friends and colleagues.
At some places you can stand up next to a barrel, end up talking to new friends on the sidewalk with your glass of wine or sit down in a cosy atmosphere with a few things to eat.
Be warned that when going to a wine bar you can stop by for a quick drink or stay for five hours.
French vocabulary at the wine bar
Cave : literally means cellar.
Vin au verre : wine by the glass. You can order a bottle but you can try wines from different regions by ordering by the glass.
Bouteille : bottle.
Planche : It’s the wooden board on which charcuterie or cheese is served. There is also planche mixte for charcuterie and cheese.
Assiettes : Some wine bars serve small plates, usually simple types of food but tasty. Other ones have more elaborate dishes.
Vin nature : natural wines without sulfites.
Droit de bouchon : corkage fee. Some places have a wine shop and ask you to pay a fee if you’d like to drink on the spot. There can be two different prices on the bottle (to take away or drink on the spot).
